The males begin their tour as gung ho soldiers all set to combat, untill their scenarios sink in and the tension of war outdoors and inside the squad result its capability to function and colaborate as a system A.) Breaks off into 2 squads. 1). sgt barnes group- brutal, and reckless squad, bend rules/ unneeded risk. )sgt elias team- use their training and methods. obey guidelines from C. O. adhere to obj. III.) in both of these stories both groups are forgotten by the outdoors world in some ways. A.) LOTF- their plane crashes into an island where no one understands about their disappearance because the remainder of the world is at war. 1.) this being so there are no guidelines for the young boys to follow and no impact on them 2.) young boys need to make their own rules and look after themselves a. )quote about meeting, and the conch (analized) 3. problems governing themselves and keeping order (2 completing groups) (CREATED HIERARCHY) 4). due to the fact that kids are not completely civilized they quickly end up being savage and harmful B.) Squadron- The soldiers are battling a war nobody wishes to belong of. Nobody in the world appreciated the vietnam war other than for the males fighting it. the members in this army were depicted as very separated from the rest of the war. 1.) this squad all alone appeared as if the soldiers were battling their own war 2.) followed a hierarchy in order to govern themselves a. two sgts that had different views to combating, and leading. 3.) resulting in problem leading the platoon and leading them as an entire b.) fighting within the army (savagery of war leached into squadron fighting within) IV.) with both of these groups forgotten, and absolutely by themselves the rules to what is right and what is incorrect is completely distorted. both groups use what they believe to be best in order to make it through. A.) LOTF With no adults around to keep control. the kids are fending for themselves trying to make a democracy. (convening, votes and company).) disputes in the group on how to lead triggers the group to burglarize 2 groups (Quote by jack when he breaks off to form his own group) a.) Jacks group-savage, id-ego, where jack manages all the boys rules with fear dictatorship uses savage insticts (no top priorities but searching) b. )ralphs group- ego, attempts by going with what grownups would do (set concerns) (encouraged to get off the island) B.) the squad is directly related with a comparable situation where the army is alone with a single objective to accomplish by working as a system. 1. the two sgts have a falling out on how to lead, and how to reach goal. (likewise divided into 2 groups) a.) sgt barnes- the more violent/agressive sgt, id-ego, spontaneous. (JACK) b.) sgt alias- the level headed sgt, depends on training, strategies, better judgement (RALPH) V.) The stress on each of the groups trigger a psychological degeneration in both of these stories, and on leaders of all 4 groups. (each utilizing something to assist get them cope) A.) LOTF 1.) jack utilizes masks of mud, clay and blood to make themselves seem like different individual then he really was. quote on jack when he made his very first mask) a.) makes it simpler to kill and hunt where without the mask jack wasnt able to eliminate a pig due to the fact that he was too squeamish b.) it made jack a different more savage individual c.) operated in the end. showing that savagery is within all human beings 2.) ralph was able to lead by using what he gained from grownups as a method of survival. even if it didnt constantly make sence ralph trusted on what he belived the adults would carry out in this scenario. a.) kept ralph confident that his dependence on grownup like habits would get him saved. b. holds on to the belief that society would dominate. c.) he was wrong when his group was eliminated, or joined jacks group. d.) periodically caves to savagery when getting caught up in searching games. B.) the platoon 1.) Sgt barnes proves himself to be like jack when he plunges into a state of savagery to eliminate the war in his own way using violence and impulses to anilate any vietnamese in his warpath a.) one scene he holds a girl at gun point threating to kill her if civilians do not give him information b. another scene he runs through trenches that are being over run, without any weapon but a shovel killing everyone in his path and nearly one of his own males c.) paradoxically likewise uses camouflage face paint. (mask) 2.) sgt alias is precisely like jack in the sense that he utilizes his training and what he is tought to lead his males into fight utilizing prepared method. a.) his dependence on his knowledge and experience kept him alive b.) trusted his orders. c.) incorrect when he went on a one male attack on a big squad of vietnamise to lead by the squad time to escape. would have lived however barnes told the helicopters to remove without him
