For committing this kind of violence, it is not necessary that the partners should be sexually intimate. However, the intimate partners involved in domestic violence are marital or cohabiting partners (Hattery 2009). They can have created a heterosexual or homosexual bondage. Intimate partner violence cannot be restricted or limited to a level of severity. It can range from minor hitting to intense and continuous beating (Kendall & Giacomoni 2007). Saltzman, et al (2002) describe four kinds of intimate partner violence that are physical violence, sexual violence, threatening for violence and psychological or emotional violence.

Physical violence can be described as the deliberate use of force to physically hurt or injure, cause disability or even death. Physical violence or abuse includes a number of aspects that are injurious for the victim Musee used in terms of usage of physical force against the victim. Such acts are performed for intimidation of the victim. These include “hitting, slapping, grabbing, pushing, scratching, hair pulling, head shaking and banging, throwing, kicking, choking, hitting with weapons and objects.

Even pushing and grabbing is domestic violence” (Walker 2009, p. 392). Usage of restraints, biting, punching or shoving are also forms of physical violence but are not restricted to only these actions (Satlzman, et al 2002). Sexual violence or abuse can be understood in three ways. First is the employment of physical force to involve a person in sexual intercourse forcibly. Second is to attempt to have sexual intercourse whether the other person has declined because of some disability, disease or any other issue such as fear.
