A person diagnosed with diabetes has a kidney which is not fully functional. According to the New York Times, their kidney do not excrete enough sugar from their from their blood system (para. 6). Due to this, their blood sugar levels require monitoring in case of any rise of its levels. According to the National Diabetes Statistics, diabetes has become of concern in this modern generation due to their eating habits (para. 2). Over the years, diabetes cases have increased in medical institutions.

The current state of the problem Like most kidney diseases, diabetes has no immediate cure (American Diabetes Association, para. 4). The cure for diabetes involves a long term treatment. In some cases, the treatment of the disorder requires a kidney transplant. With the cost of this procedure, many individuals choose to live on daily treatments. Apart from the cost, the number of kidney donors has also decreased. The article in the New York Times argued that many people fear to donate their kidneys in fear of themselves succumbing to kidney failures (para. 5). Additionally, many family doctors discourage their clients from donating their kidneys because of the increased risks in succumbing to kidney failures.

Diabetes is one of the most sensitive clinical problems the medical field faces today. The hypothesis and design on how to research on the problem The research to determine the statistics on diabetes disclosed a lot of information regarding the disease. The centers of disease control and prevention played a major role in the research. The estimates were obtained from these centers. Different research articles have used different methods of estimating the statistics. The two most common methods are the fasting glucose method and the A1C levels method.

The National Diabetes Statistics 2007 survey used the fasting glucose data to come up with results of undiagnosed diabetes. The National Diabetes 2011 survey used the A1C method and also the fasting glucose method. However, the results obtained from using the two modes do not differ by much (National Diabetes Statistics, para. 4). Data samples and analysis Judging from the results, some statistics have been confirmed. Diabetes affects about 8.3 % of the United States population. This is about 25.

8 million people. From the 25.8 million people, 7 million are not diagnosed with the illness. 18.8 of the infected population have been diagnosed. Diabetes is rampant in individuals above the age of 65 years. The number of people with the illness and are above the age of 65 years stand at about 10.9 million. This is roughly 26.9 % of the whole infected population. Only 215,000 people below the age of 20 years old suffered from diabetes in the year 2010. The results also indicated that 79 % of the United States citizens above the age of 20 years had pre-diabetes (American Diabetes Association, par 4).

Summary and conclusion From the finding some conclusions had been established. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure among the United States population. According to the American Diabetes Association (para. 5), kidney failures in major medical centers have been caused by diabetes. Diabetes is also the main cause on lower limb amputations. Another astonishing finding is the fact that diabetes is a major cause of stroke and heart diseases. It is estimated about 5 % of many heart illnesses at old age are accompanied by the effects of diabetes.

And it was concluded that
