Normal Body Systems Functions - Essay Example

Summary
This paper 'Normal Body Systems Functions' tells us that energy taken into the body from food and supplements must be equal to the energy that must be given up and released from the body to maintain homeostasis or normal body systems functions.  Normal body systems functions can only be sustained at 37°C. …

The extra glucose will be converted by the liver as stored glycogen and the extra lipids will be stored as fats. In case of additional intake of food when cells' needs are just satiated or satisfied, the liver takes care of the storage of the extra materials.

In increased respiratory function brought about by exercise, stored glucose and fats will be tapped to produce replacement ATPs.  Increased respiratory functions through exercise then must be good because in excessive storage of fats, according to the study conducted by Ziccardi P. et al (2002), concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines are higher which are found to be tumor necrosis factor α (TNF- α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6).  On the other hand, the weight loss resulted in reduced fats, reduced concentrations of α (TNF- α), reduced interleukin-6 (IL-6), reduced P-selectin, reduced ICAM-1, and reduced VCAM-1 (Ziccardi P. et al 2002).  Thus, weight loss through exercise would bring down the level of endothelial dysfunction such as inflammations as a consequence of the lowered level of the most likely trigger factors, cytokines, consequently, reducing also the risk of atherothrombosis (Ziccardi P. et al 2002).  Furthermore, exercise and weight loss are the closest means by which inflammatory process impact may be lessened (Visser 1999).

  1. Blundell and Hill (1992), showed a diagram explaining the biological regulation which starts with the brain including environmental adaptation driving eating behavior for the body to gain the nutrition needed for physiologic function.Hunger and thirst normally drive food intake, which is stimulated by Ghrelin molecules that relays the relay to the hypothalamus by attachments to neurotransmitters. Ghrelin is produced by the stomach in increased levels in times of need for food. Leptin, on the other hand, is receptor-produced cholesterol (testosterone) which when in synergy with CCK will create a satiated feeling.  However, Leptin produced by fats which may be in excessive volume as storage fat, other than cholesterol (testosterone), + Ghrelin from the stomach, + PYY3-36 + CCK + GLP-1 + GRP, would send a message to the hypothalamus of the brain through neurotransmitters for feedback which is induced food intake.  This is how defective appetite regulation would contribute to increased fat intake and obesity.

In excessive storage of fats, according to the study conducted by Ziccardi P. et al (2002), concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines are higher which are found to be tumor necrosis factor α (TNF- α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6).  Endothelial dysfunction such as inflammations as a consequence of the high level of the most likely trigger factors, cytokines, consequently, increases also the risk of atherothrombosis (Ziccardi P. et al 2002).  This is the most likely explanation for the therapeutic potential in the administration of the anti-inflammatory agent.
