Job Roles in Africa College: Job Roles in Africa Africa has developed to be a self-sustaining continent. Due to the development, its education standards have also developed and as a result, new and different job roles have been created. The emergence of all the new jobs has led to classification of jobs, from the highest paying to the least paying (Hofmeyr 2010). In the year 2014, such a classification was done in order to come up with the top five most paying jobs in Africa. These are the jobs that were ranked as top five in that year.

The highest paying job was that of a petroleum engineer. This is because it requires a lot of dedication as well as commitment to execute. Second in the list is the job of a pilot. This is because the piloting industry is hard and operates mostly at odd hours. Third in the list is the air traffic controller. This is ranked on the third level because it is stressing and demanding. Fourth is the chartered accountant and is ranked at this level since it takes seven years to complete the required basic studies.

Last in the top five is the computer and information systems managers which are due to the demand in technology advancement. In order to come up with the list, a number of factors were included such as training, social and economic factors as well as life roles. The most critical factor was the paying ability of the career (Taylor 2012). In 2015, the top five most paying roles were air traffic controller, secondly airline pilots and flight engineers, thirdly was the petroleum engineer. Fourth in the list is computer and information systems manager while the last in the list is the lawyer.

From the two lists, it is clear that most of the highest paying jobs in 2014 maintain the lead in 2015. The qualifications for these high paying jobs vary with the type of job. For a petroleum engineer, you have to take at least six years studying and doing practice in the field. For the pilot, many years are spent studying and doing practices. Thus, much effort and years are spent as well as practical training. Chartered accountant, computer and information systems manager and lawyers all require much and dedicated studying (Taylor 2012).

Also, they require sharp minds as well as willing personality since it is not smooth to complete these courses. Much experience is needed for one to secure places in these jobs and therefore one has to be patient. The countries with most of these jobs are oil producing countries. They include South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Libya and Equatorial Guinea (Forsgren 2013). The ten largest companies in Africa are as follows; Kenya’s Safaricom, South Africa’s Nando’s, Kenya’s Nation Media Group, South Africa’s MTN, Zimbabwe’s Econet, Nigeria’s Ioko TV, Woolworths from South Africa, Pick n Pay from South Africa, Kenya’s East African Breweries and South Africa’s Famous Brands.

All these companies employ a huge number of employees and therefore contribute greatly to the economic development of the countries.
