Utilizing Halophytes in Afforestation and Reforestation Reducing Pressure on Deforestation: By University Name City, State Date of Submission Utilizing Halophytes in Afforestation and Reforestation Reducing Pressure on Deforestation Background of the study Some environments provide different conditions and require different plants or living organisms to survive and promote the environmental cover necessary for a good climatic condition. Afforestation and reforestation aids reduce pressure on deforestation. Afforesttaion reduces the pressure on deforestation in a number of ways. Afforestation refers to the development of a forest in places in which it did not exist (Ilbery, 2014, p.119). The development of these provides for the growth of a new forest cover and hence reducing the pressure on deforestation and hence providing environmental preservation measures. On the other hand, reforestation refers to the development or maintenance of an existing forest through the act of planting trees when others are cut. Deforestation may not prove a very effective means of reducing pressure on deforestation leading to better chances on environmental maintenance. Through these measures afforestation and deforestation, the environmental aspects would indicate an improvement that ranges from the reduced pressure on deforestation. The challenges faced by many countries on fighting the environmental changes occasioned by the high rate of deforestation, there have developed options that would aid in providing solutions to deforestation. Through these, the application of halophytes has proven an option to aid in providing the environmental cover necessary to improve the environment. The application of halophytes proves applicable based on their ability to withstand tougher grounds and grow into plants that will keep the necessary green cover available. The environmental efforts to redeem the environment have mostly proven futile leading to the need to develop netter approaches to the problem hence the study below: Statement of the problem of study Many environmentalists have developed approaches towards the solving of deforestation. Despite these efforts, deforestation still on the rise and has provided for a fear of the environment caused by the increasing effects and loss of the earth’s cover. Many efforts have emerged aimed at reducing the effect and creating a means of dealing with the challenges. These range from afforestation to the campaigns promoting reforestation. The application of these means did not yield much and hence the concentration of many on studying these aspects to reveal better approaches to the problem. The application of resistant plants and those that can grow under difficult conditions has provided the option that many consider workable in reducing the pressure on deforestation. The application of afforestation and reforestation in conditions different has allowed for identification of the halophytes as an option to others. Halophytes develop in different environments but perform bets in saline environments. The study aims at detailing the application of halophytes in the afforeststion and reforestation processes to aid in solving the problem that the environment faces. Aims and objectives/Hypotheses: The aims of the study include the following: 1. Identification of the different alternatives of glycophytes that may provide for the fuel needs of the people to reduce deforestation. 2. Encourage the people to embrace afforesttsion of the halophytes as a way to develop a new system for fuel needs. The application of this approach to even reforestation will add to the green cover that the world needs to reduce the environmental effects experienced currently. 3. The study also aims at reducing the rate of deforestation through the creation of an option that the world may rely on to provide for the deforestation needs. This will massively reduce the level of deforestation and increase afforestation and reforestation. 4. These aims will satisfy the research questions raised that include the need for options that would aid in providing alternatives to energy needs besides the use of trees that lives the world green cover affected leading to environmental effects. The study also relies on the hypothesis that: 1. The presence of an alternative source of energy will lead to a reduction on deforestation that the world needs to satisfy the needs hence more afforestation or reforestation. 2. The alternative source of energy will prevail over the current use of plants majorly glycophtes to produce fuels for human consumption. Study area/period of study The study area or scope covers aspects of time, geographical location or content scope. The time scope covers the time within which the research will be undertaken. The time for the study will cover a period of five months providing ample time for the halophytes to grow and hence easily determining their impact on the environment. The geographical scope entails the area under which the study will be undertaken which will indicate the provision of different conditions for the analysis of the effects that will indicate the growth of halophytes. The content scope covers the content applied in the study. The content under study indicates the aspects of afforeststion and deforestation in relation to reducing the pressure on deforestation. Methods A number of methodologies exist through which data maybe collected for such projects. These range from those that apply qualitative means to those that feature quantitative aspects. These both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Considering the need to collect the data and ensure it provides an analytical approach to the results, there is need to consider the quantitative approach more compared to the qualitative approach (Hoy, 2009, p.23). The need to ensure the answers come in understandable graphs that feature many other explanatory events also pushes for the quantitative approach to the study. According to the literature gathered, the study aims at detailing the major causes of deforestation developing a solution based on the results obtained. These will require a quantitative study to reveal to the world the actual numbers and hence stress the dire need to shift to halophytes as a form of fight against afforestation and deforestation. Quantitative study refers to the method of research that aims at detailing the figurative approach to the study that reveals the data in numeric form yielding graphs that easily explain the happenings of the study and draw conclusions. The method proves applicable to the study bearing that it is simple to apply and gives better analysis of the collected data. Numerical data is simple to apply in statistics. This provides the advantage that the researcher benefits from during the study. The study will also apply majorly primary data collection techniques largely while the secondary data will work towards explaining the facts of the study. Secondary data collection techniques employ the use of already existing data to make decisions in research. It employs magazines, newspapers, and online sources, and textbooks, journals among other materials that have data collected earlier and developed into a stored material. The advantages with the secondary data collection techniques lie in their ease of accessing data. The system proves cheaper in research since it depends on already existing sources and saves the researcher the stress of collecting data originally from the field. The disadvantage with this method is the effects associated with secondary data. Errors committed by previous researchers may feature in the current research as a result of using secondary data. On the other hand, primary data collection techniques provide better approach to this nature of study based on their originality aspect. Primary data collection employs the use of data collection techniques that lead the researcher to the field directly aiding them obtains data fresh from the field. Primary data collection applies various means that range from observation, to experimental methods that may also involve surveys. It also may involve the interview methods or the use of questionnaires to obtain data from the participants. These result into data applicable in the study and that which will yield better understanding and analysis for the study. The advantage with primary data collection techniques is that they provide data fresh from the field and hence a better approach to different research studies. It provides the liberty to the researcher to obtain data successfully while also learning other aspects from the field that may aid in the development of the report. The disadvantage with this approach may include the change of behavior of respondents once they realize there are under study. The study will employ an experimental approach to data collection in which an experiment will occur that will provide for the level of effect that the use of halophytes as a replacement for glycophytes use in production of fuel will aid in reducing the level of deforestation experienced. The experimental approach will allow for the development of the research based on the contents available in the field and explain to the users of the research material their overall applicability of data (Carducci, 2009, p.27). The study will then employ an observation system backed by an interview approach that will reveal the attitude of the respondents towards the new system of fuel development. These will add to the system of ease and applicability of the research data and hence providing a proven system that aids improve the environmental aspects reducing the levels of deforestation while increasing afforestation and reforestation. Sampling will work towards the selection of participants for the study. A total sample of 100 respondents is being targeted. These will provide an easy approach to the study and represent more the sample compared to the application of less a sample. Random sampling will work and hence providing the answers to the study needed to ensure it yields better understandable results for the researcher. The data collected will then undergo analysis using the various systems under excel to provide graphs and charts to explain the data collected. Expected outcomes Conducting of different organizational or research on the subjects under consideration is expected to yield an explanation and prove a decision of the advantages of using halophytes in the fight against environmental degradation. The study is expected to detail to the users of the research the actual applicability of the halophyte in the reduction of pressure on deforestation. Conducting research in such, a field will indicate the ability of environmentalists to depend on these and hence the scientific consideration of developing others that work to support the availability of the green surface through halophytes. The ability to cover and maintain other activities that will lead to the availability of the necessary cover to yield the plants availability for the world provides an advantage to the study. Halophytes grow in saline conditions (Waisel, 2012). Their ability to survive in such environments provides information of the possibility of having a green cover and practicing afforestion in areas that previously were considered unworthy. These areas such as water bodies that have salty waters may provide for the response needed on any occasion. Having a forest created in saline environments provides additional advantage to the world since most of these saline waters are normally abandoned. The world has grown to depend on glycophytes that have indicated difficulties for their in ability to grow under saline environments hence the need of the study to detail the advantages of the halophytes that cover less percentage of the world green cover (Lieth, & Mochtchenko, 2003, p.5). These provide an advantage that needs consideration. Through the study, other advantages of the halophytes will materialize. The use of it as a substitute originates from the biodiversity aspect that it portrays. As a third generation biofuel to the world, halophytes will go an extra mile in reducing deforestation. The major challenge that is leading most to deforestation according to the literature attached is the need for energy or petroleum for coking. These have led to the cutting down of trees to ensure they provide the energy for these human activities. Through deforestation, the food needs of the habitats of these plants and humans increases while the production remains on the decline. The need to reduce deforestation to improve the food needs proves necessary. These provide the expectations that the research is expected to explain and hence aid in saving the world from global environmental effects slowly creating a lasting effect to the world and its populations. The research is expected to yield better alternatives to application of trees and that explains the use of halophytes in the study as better alternatives for the necessary replacement to preserve the glycophytes that the world needs to provide food.
